Why swim and dive

The Bon Air Blue Streaks Swim & Dive Team is a great opportunity for children of all ages to be part of a team, improve swimming & diving skills, and make friends.  During the summer, our kids could all use a constructive outlet for their energy!

  • No competitive swimming or diving experience is necessary for any age level to join, however we do require that:
    • swimmers be able to swim the length of the pool (25 yards) by themselves to ensure the safety of all swimmers
    • divers be able to swim to the side of the diving well, and be age 6 +
  • Swim & Dive Team are both a great team sport that provides individual competition opportunities, group (relay) competition opportunities in swim team, and encourages teammate support.
  • Swim & Dive Team both offer a very inexpensive summer opportunity for kids to be involved in an activity every day that is engaging and will wear them out!

Meet Our Coaches

Head Swim Coach: Erica Stanley

We are elated that Coach Erica will be returning this year as our Head Swim Coach!  As a youth, Erica got her start in summer league and then on to year-round swimming.  She then swam Division 1 at Radford University.  Erica coached summer and year-round teams during college and after graduating, and then took a break when her three children were small.  She has returned to her love of swimming by coaching for James River High School (Go Rapids!!), Woodmont for 2 years, and is a Swim Instructor at NOVA.  Erica’s passion for swim coaching shows in everything she does when interacting with swimmers and parents.  She loves that swimming is a sport that anyone can participate in and excel at, and enjoys encouraging swimmers at all levels.

Erica is an ASCA Level II certified coach.  This certification only adds to a strong passion for growth, community and sportsmanship in and out of the water.

Her three children Kason, Aurelia and Mylah are excited to return to the Blue Streaks this summer, too!

Assistant Swim Coach: Arabelle Rafferty

Coach Arabelle is very excited to return for her second year of coaching as a Blue Streak.  She has been on our swim team since 2015, and joined the SwimRVA team in 2018.  She also swims for James River High School.

Arabelle is in her sophomore year at James River High School.

Assistant Swim Coach: Maddie Donovan

We are so fortunate to have Coach Maddie back as an assistant coach this year!  Maddie has been a volunteer coach for the Blue Streaks for the past two years, and has gotten so much great experience from that.

Maddie has been a Blue Streak swimmer since 2014, and joined the SwimRVA team in 2021.  She is currently a sophomore at James River High School in the Leadership Program, where she is also on the High School Swim Team.

Assistant Swim Coach: Karsten Stiles

Please welcome Karsten to our coaching team!  Karsten has been swimming competitively since second grade. He swims for Poseidon year-round. He is currently a sophomore at Veritas School. He has been swimming for his school team since 6th grade, and has qualified for States in 500 freestyle, 200 freestyle, 100 backstroke and relay events. His favorite event is the 1000m freestyle.  He enjoys working with kids, and has volunteer coached a soccer team, as well as served as a volunteer camp counselor.  He is looking forward to being part of the Blue Streak coaching team this summer.

Co-Head Dive Coach:  Cady Baron

We are so happy to have Coach Cady return as a co-head dive coach this year!  Cady was our assistant coach last year, and has been on the Bon Air Dive Team since 2016.  She was the first member of the James River High School Dive Team, and has seriously impressed the judges…making it to States two years in a row!

Cady is passionate about diving, and is excited about leveraging this coaching role to spark that passion in other divers.

Co-Head Dive Coach:  Isabelle Haer

We are so excited to welcome Isabelle as co-head coach of the dive team at Bon Air this summer!  She is currently a Senior at Manchester High School.  She just finished up her second high school dive season and third high school swim season, where she is the SWIVER (swimmer diver), because she is the first in CCPS to compete at Regional Championships in both swim and dive.

Isabelle dove for Bon Air during the summer of 2022 and for Woodlake from 2014-2016 and enjoyed the friendships, camaraderie and the competition.  After she retired from competitive gymnastics, she trained for 2 years with Dive RVA where she was given the opportunity to volunteer to coach and learn from the best. While she will truly miss her Westerleigh Warriors Swim Team (where she coached swimming over the last 3 summers), she is thrilled to return to Bon Air as a coach!

This fall Isabelle will further her academic and diving career at VMI on a Division I Athletic Scholarship.  She plans to major in International Studies and Political Science.

She looks forward to instilling good sportsmanship and making special memories this summer with the Bon Air Blue Streaks!
